This wonderful old building was located in Alviso, California (which has been incorporated by San Jose). It is on the southern tip of the San Francisco Bay and used to be an important shipping port for the area's canning industry and other industries.
The area was first settled in the 1700s and named for the son of the one of the original members of the Spanish de Anza expedition. This building was Laine's Grocery, run by the Tilden family for 1865 - 1912. It then became a Chinese gambling hall. During the Great Depression the town was known not only for its gaming, but for its dance halls. At some point it became an antique shop. This building completely collapsed some years after this shot and has now been completely removed.
