Description
I started the painting with a warm ground of raw umber blended with earthy oranges and ochers. Then I let those dots fly. I apply the dots by letting the paint hit the canvas. Some are manually placed. I then loosely sketched in a monarch that just screams summer time. Once the oranges blacks and yellow are dropped, it is when the painting truly starts taking place. This is a push and pull of building and destroying. I'm always humbled how just a speck of light blue or pink can contrast an area. The whole painting vibrates. I have been painting in this controlled crash landing style of paint for a few years. I still like the classic approach of painting in a controlled manner but I also enjoy letting the paint fly and throwing caution to the wind. It's almost like a therapy/holiday all mixed in one
