This early 19th century painting titled ‘John Eardley Wilmot’ by Benjamin West features Sir John Eardley Wilmot, an English judge who served as the Chief Justice of the Common Pleas for five years from 1766 to 1771. His noteworthy achievements include serving as an advocate at the Derby Assizes and as junior counsel to the Treasury, and being appointed as a royal commissioner to investigate American Loyalists’ claims subsequent to the American Revolutionary War.
