Description
Hoover Dam. Hydroelectric power station at the base of the Hoover Dam on the Colorado river, Nevada, USA. The power station (bottom) contains seventeen main turbines which convert the energy in falling water into electricity. The water enters the power station through intake towers from the reservoir, Lake Mead, above the dam. The dam was built across Black Canyon between 1931 and 1936. The power station has a capacity of 2000 megawatts of electricity. It is linked by cables to pylons at the top of the canyon walls (top), from where electricity is supplied to the states of Nevada, Arizona and California.
