Description
San Jose, Northern California - Dead tree seen peeking though the oak trees on an early spring seen hike in Alum Rock Park. One of San Jose's oldest municipal parks, Alum Rock Park, founded in 1872, consists of 720 acres and is located in the foothills of the Diablo Range, at the eastern edge of San Jose. From 1890 to 1932 it was a nationally known health spa with 27 mineral springs and the grottos that were built to contain the springs . Today the park is known for its hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, and picnicking, as well as being one of the sites of the Youth Science Institute. It's a great place to see many native trees and other plants, as well as animals and birds.
