Description
This is actually Osprey Island in the southeast corner of Buck Lake as viewed at 11:24 am on Saturday October 1st, 2016. There was a vintage canoe left on the beach on the northwestern shore of Buck Lake. I had my favourite paddle and that was all I needed. It was a terrific paddle in the old cedar strip and canvas covered canoe. I painted this canoe in 1822 Cedar Strip, 1823 In the Shadows and 1826 Stern Seat. The osprey nest in the pine was probably the encouragement for the name of this 'three tree' island.
The approaching weather was written in the clouds. The altocumulus were stretching along the deformation zone spawned by the cold low to the west. It was only a matter of time before the warm conveyor belt pumped an increasingly thick layer of cloud and moisture up to the deformation zone. The cloud would thicken to nimbostratus. Rain was on the way but for now it was a terrific day to paint and canoe.
Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve is a peaceful, year round wilderness haven with twenty private lakes and more than ten thousand unspoiled acres of mixed forest. We offer six lakefront lodges and cottages surrounded by extensive woodland trails and sandy beaches. Our hiking trails are scattered with numerous interesting and unique natural features. Since opening the early 1900s as a premier recreational resort, we have offered a variety of recreational activities and accommodation for nearby local ski hills, golf courses, and world famous Algonquin Park.
