Description
NOTE: For best image quality please select Glossy or better paper, not the default Archival Matte. The original bird painting was painted with oils, which give deep, rich tones. Better papers will give you more vibrant colors and contrast that more closely represent the original oil colors than the default choice of Archival Matte paper. So be sure to change your paper selection when ordering!
Black-capped chickadees have long been a favorite among bird lovers, and even casual bird watchers and backyard gardeners. This is probably because they are common and widespread throughout North America and are not shy or afraid of humans, so they are a very familiar visitor to gardens and backyard bird feeders and bird baths. Their charming chickadee-dee-dee song is easily recognizable and frequently heard throughout the spring and summer months. Not only that, but they are adorably cute little birds with their little round bodies, black capped heads, large eyes, and tiny beaks. They are very active and fun to watch. What's not to love about a chickadee? I created this painting for a fall-themed exhibit so, besides cute birds, I wanted some elements of autumn in there too. Living in Washington state, where both chickadees and apple trees are common, the apples seemed a good fit, normally being harvested in autumn around here. In this painting I wanted the 3 chickadees to interact with each other as well as the apple tree. The placement of the apple harvest basket in the scene was to emphasize the fact that it was autumn.
