Description
Santa Clara, Northern California, USA - Walking along the San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail, we spotted this great egret among the dried cattails and grasses that had recently been flattened by the rain-swollen creek. The great egret is also known as the common egret, or the large egret and is from the family Ardea alba. This egret is found with four sub-species, in Asia, Africa, the Americas, and southern Europe. Its wingspan is from 4.3 to 5.6 feet and it weighs 1.5 to 3.3. pounds. Its prey is fish, frogs, snakes, and crayfish, which can all be found at times in this creek.
